What Causes Vaginal Itching In A Child?

Hi my daughter is six years of age and recently she was telling me that her vagina is itching. I clean the area with pamper baby wipe bathed her and then applied some Vaseline on the area of the clitoris at the top. The itching stopped for a while then it started to itch again. Can it possibly be pin worms?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Pin worm doesn’t cause vaginal itching. It will cause perianal itching. This itching seems to be due to friction or intertrigo. I would recommend you to apply topical steroid like cortisone cream on the affected areas once daily.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
