What Causes Vaginal Itching?

I m 18 years old and from the last one month I ve been experiencing irritation and itchiness inside and around my vagina. It s really uncomfortable to sit or stand or do anything at all.It happens mostly in the mornings waking me up from my sleep and is almost the same time always. It s hard to pass urine too as I feel like I need to use the toilet but when I do it s really less and I feel I can t just pass it out right. it s even accompanied with lower abdominal pain sometimes. I m sexually active with my boyfriend only but haven t had sex when all this started. I did masturbated once or twice between all this but during those days there was no pain or irritation down there. I m really scared. I don t know what to do. Can someone please help?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms are more consistent with infective causes like yeast or bacterial vaginosis. Consult a gynaecologist and plan for a vaginal swab to confirm the diagnosis. As of now, you can use clotrimazole lotion to cleanse your genitals.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
