What Causes Vaginal Itching?

I have an itch deep inside my vagina on one side only - the left - i also feel as if that area is thicker than the other side. I'm not on the pill since we use condoms instead. I am 43 with 3 teenage children. The area is where I have a scar from stithes where I tore giving birth.
