What Causes Vaginal Spotting After Stopping Depo Shots?

Hi, I have something that is a bit worrying. I was on the Depo Shot for 3 months and stop it. My menstruation came the next month, the month after that it did not come. Being used to know that it throws my hormones crazy I just waited for my period to make its normal routine. I then had it again as expected last month at the months end. 7 days and it finished. Going into the new month it was 12 days and I got my period again. I was wondering if it possible due to it being a new month and my hormones may be haywire because of the contraceptive, but then it was a week and now AGAIN... the was a bit spotting from yesterday. now it looks like I m having my 2nd period in a month. 3 periods in a time window of a 30 days... both times was just after my husband and I had intercourse. I m not pregnant as we strictly have safe intercourse and I have done urine test to confirm when I thought something could have happened. So what might seem to be the problem? I m deathly afraid to see a Gynecologist in person...

Hi,

Sometimes, intermittent spotting can continue for about 2 to 3 months after discontinuing or stopping contraceptives like deposit shots.

This can occur when the body is adopting to the hormonal changes after the medication has been taken away.

In case this is worrying for you, you need to get an ultrasound scan done and consult Gynecologist with the report for clinical evaluation and appropriate management.

Spotting could happen due to the presence of uterine polyps, cervicitis or pelvic inflammatory disease. All such causes are treatable and you should not be apprehensive about it.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
