What Causes Vaginal Spotting Before Having Periods?

Every month before my period for a week to a week and a half I start spotting. Some months I spot the entire week or so and some I spot every other day. There are times that it is heavy spotting and times when it is not heavy at all. The spotting is always a lite pink and has a terrible odor. This also happens the very last day of my period. This has been happening for almost a year now.

This can possibly an infection of vagina. Please consult a gynaecologist and you need to get tested for vaginal infections. Although the most common is yeast infection, you should get checked for other microbes too. Secondly, in some cases of ovarian cyst, intermittent spotting is observed. USG abdomen will be helpful.
Knowing your age and whether you are sexually active would be a good thing to get to right diagnosis too.
Stay healthy.
