What Causes Vaginal Spotting In Between Menstrual Cycles Despite Taking Vaginal Suppositories?

Hi. I was having spotting in between my periods. On getting diagnosed, I was told that it is pelvic congestion with some inflamation. I was prescribed daflon tablets 500 mg, cyclo progynova, monilia rate vaginal suppositories. After the first month, doctor confirmed 80% improvement. I was further asked to continue with cyclo progynova, and asked to take albothyl vaginal suppositories. In addition, I was also given dostinex 0.5 mg for secretion from breasts. Now that I used the 8th and last suppository last night, I have spotting today. It is only 22nd day after my previous cycle and am still taking cyclo progynova. Could you please tell me, what could this be for and is it normal to have spotting like this?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Vaginal spotting in between menstrual cycles can have several underlying causes, including hormonal imbalances, infections, cervical or uterine polyps, or fibroids. It is possible that the underlying cause of your spotting has not been completely resolved, despite the treatment you have been receiving.

It is important to discuss your concerns with your healthcare provider and undergo any necessary diagnostic tests such as a pelvic exam, ultrasound, or blood tests to determine the underlying cause of your symptoms. Your healthcare provider may also adjust your current medication regimen or recommend additional treatments based on the results of these tests.

Spotting while taking vaginal suppositories can sometimes occur due to irritation of the vaginal tissues, and it is important to follow your healthcare provider's instructions for using these medications. You may also want to avoid using tampons or engaging in sexual activity until your symptoms have resolved.

In summary, it is recommended that you discuss your symptoms with your healthcare provider and undergo any necessary diagnostic tests to determine the underlying cause of your spotting.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
