Hello. I m needing answers ASAP please!! I ve been on the nuvaring for 10 months now with no problems and following directions on how to use it as I should. I am aware that you can start spotting or bleeding a few days before time to take it out for a period because that s happened a few times (no big deal) but i started spotting very very lightly one week and two days exactly after having my last period and then inserting the nuvaring back in (on the very day I was supposed to). The bleeding got a little heavier each day and after reading up about it I seen where it said to take it out. So after 4 days I took it out and then I started bleeding super heavy and the blood was dark and I was clotting a lot. It s been nearly two weeks and I am still bleeding off and on but now the blood is bright red. It seemed like it was letting up and going to stop until I woke up in the middle of the night last night after not bleeding all day with sorta heavy darker blood again. Today I ve spotted bright red a little but for the most part there s been nothing today. What could be wrong?! Also havin crazy crazy mood swings, insomnia, headaches, frequent urination, and also had lots of cramping and back pain right before the bleeding started. Please help! Thank you!
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
When bleeding occurs for longer period than it is usually as in your case then there are few possible causes and most common is a hormone imbalance. PCOS is one of the causes of hormonal imbalance. While some causes may be easy to treat, others can indicate a serious underlying condition. Whether you notice spotting or heavier bleeding in between periods, it’s important to see your doctor for testing, diagnosis, and treatment options. Other potential other causes of bleeding between periods include a growth in the uterus or cervix, stress, change in medications, miscarriage, vaginal dryness. Your doctor will also likely give you a physical exam, including a pelvic exam. Diagnostic tests can help your doctor find the cause of the bleeding. Your doctor may draw blood to check hormone levels. Then right treatment can be recommended.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
