What Causes Vaginal Spotting While On Teva-Moxifloxacin?
Hello, I was diagnosed with pneumonia Saturday evening and was given Teva-Moxifloxacin 400mg to take for treatment. My menstrual cycle is like clockwork and always around mid month do I experience the fun. I just went to the bathroom and it looked like there was some pale pinkish/light red coloured blood...do I need to seek medical attention right now? When should I, if not now? Thank you for your help! - Christine
Moxifloxacin will not cause menstrual irregularities. However, stress associated with an infection can cause alterations in the menstrual cycle. And the spotting you experienced is likely to be premenstrual. Another possibility is that if you are sexually active, implantation phase in pregnancy can cause mild spotting. This usually occurs 4-6 days after ovulation. Ovulation occurs around mid cycle in women with regular menstrual cycles. If pregnancy is a possibility, follow up with your treating physician to switch from moxifloxacin to pregnancy safe antibiotics. Moxifloxacin is associated with birth defects in the fetus if used early in pregnancy.
