What Causes Vaginal Spotting With Clots?

Hello, My period was a week late, the day I was suppose to start I had little brown spot so I was thinking my period would come the next day. I have very regular periods so when it did not come until the following week I was a bit nervous. However once it came I have only been bleeding when I wipe. Verily little to none on the pad and no clots in it. It is the second day, which is normally my heaviest and I would have usually experienced some clotting by now. I'm not sure what is going on especially since this is not normal for me at all. What do you think the possibility is?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello!
Firstly, it is important to know whether you had any menstrual irregularities in the past. It is important to understand the nature of your cycles. Some of the common causes of spotting and delated periods include stress, strenuous activities, hormonal imbalance and hormonal contraceptives. If you are sexually active, it is important to exclude the chances of pregnancy by taking a urine pregnancy test at home. Other possibilities like anemia, thyrood hormone abnormalities and ovarian cysts may have to be excluded. Please get back anytime in case of any further queries!
