What Causes Vaginal Spotting With No Regular Period?

ive been on the pill for 5 months now but last month i missed one pill (i realise and took it approx 12 hours later) now a week before i am due to get my period i have had this really light bleeding which is a brown/ pinky red colour. could i be pregnant or why could this be occuring?
