What Causes Vaginal Spotting With No Regular Period?

Hi, i had my menstruation on January 1st late night that u could say that is was also on January 2nd. My menstruation was normal. I haven't had intercourse. I took a pregnancy test and it is negative. But this had never happend to me.. I have been spotting dark brown. What could this mean?
