What Causes Vertigo, Dizziness And Tightness In Head While On Gemcitabine?

My brother has pancreatic cancer and is on Gemcitabine. He received its 6th dose and developed vertigo, dizziness and tightness in head. He also developed DVT after 4th dose of above injection and on Fragmin s/c daily for last 4weeks. Day by day he is getting weak with thin lean body. He is not taking metformin with Blood sugar of 12mmol as doctor said no need to take as diabetes is due to chemotherapy. Kindly advice in this regard.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have vertigo, dizziness and tightness in head while on Gemcitabine. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like side effect effect of medicine as you mention in query , ear problem like meniere's disease , or low blood sugar or iron level . I would sugggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper examination. For proper examination . Doctor may order CT scan MRI or head along with examination of ear with otoscope , along with rotatory chair test and hearing test . Doctor may prescribe antiemetic drug , antibiotics along with vestibular therapy . Doctor may also refer you to endocrinologist for blood sugar problem .
