Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, About six months ago I was hospitalized with vertigo, it was so bad that I kept vomiting and couldn t go to work for a week. Now I am better (get occasional dizzy spells but nothing like the vertigo attack). I am flying to another country for holiday this week and was wondering if flying (or being on a boat) could trigger my vertigo and bring it back?
Hello and welcome to HCM, The vertigo precipitated by sitting in a vehicle- ship, plane or by road is called motion sickness. Motion sickness occurs due to disturbance occurring in the canals of inner. This kind of motion sickness can be avoided by taking anti-cholinergic drug which will prevent the precipitation of motion sickness. However, vertigo can occur in the absence of motion sickness. This type of vertigo is due to disturbance of the fluid in the inner ear canals. Thus, I suggest you to consult an ENT specialist for clinical evaluation of the inner ear. The management of the condition can be planned further.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja P Wahal
