What Causes Vision Blurriness After A Rise In BP Level?
I m 68 yrs old, have moderately high blood pressure. 2 nights ago experienced sudden change in vision. Went to bed with normal (for me) vision and awoke next morning with blurred vision in left eye. It lasted all day and even changed to blurred in my right eye. Went to bed that night with slight improvement and awoke the next morning back to normal. Has stayed normal again today. Should I head to the eye doctor ??
Hello and welcome to HCM, Long standing high blood pressure affects the ocular structures like retina. High blood pressure can lead to hemorrhage across the small blood vessels supplying the retina. Hemorrhage in the small retinal blood vessels can lead to blurring of vision. The blurring of vision that you experienced could be an effect of high blood pressure, however, the temporary nature of blurring is strange. But a clinical assessment by an ophthalmologist is required to assess the retina and other structures of eye. In case any lesion relating to high blood pressure is detected, appropriate measures in the form anti-hypertensive drugs and local measures can be taken.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
