Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My father is 70 years old and every night for 2 1/2 years thinks someone has been shining lights on his wall along with other things like animals and people! He also hears voices! He is fixing to buy cameras and night vision googles to try and catch whoever is doing this. I am just now reading about this and would like to know how I could approach him to see a doctor about this situation. He lives alone and I am worried about his well being! Thanks for any information you could share with me!
Hello and welcome to HCM, Is there any history of alcoholism in your father because alcoholism is the most common cause of hallucinations. In case history of alcoholism is present, abstinence from alcohol is required. If there is no history of alcoholism, the hallucination could be due to psychiatric disorder known as schizopherenia. I suggest you to consult a psychiatrist before the hallucinations get worse.
it appears that your father is likely to be suffering from schizophrenia- a psychosis. A consultation with psychiatrist will help him getting rid of his present problems.
