What Causes Vomiting After Gallbladder Removal?

My daughter, 28, had her gall bladder removed today. Dr said it was inflamed and rubbed a raw spot on liver. She was fine until 8p.m. When she are lite applesauce to take a pain pill. She s been throwing up off and on for 3 hours. Her vomit is watery but cola colored. She has not eaten anything else and has only drank water. Should I be worried?

Hi,

After abdominal surgery, the gut, even if the intestines are not involved, can be irritated and it may take a little while for them to be ready to absorb food. She may need to hold off using any more solids or liquids till at least 12 to 18 hours have passed.

Some persons need to wait till 24 hours. She should be okay but if you remain concerned then she should be seen. Signs and symptoms of complications include-fever, increasing pain or discomfort.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
