What Causes Vomiting And Diarrhea While On Antibiotics?

My husband was in the hospital for a week. He came home last Fri, and on Sun he started vomiting and sever diarrhea. He was on several antibiotics. The vomiting has stopped, but he still has diarrhea bad. It is black Like tar. Should we be concerned?

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your query diarrhea along with dark stools after taking Antibiotics is due to the side effects of the antibiotics as they kill the good bacteria of the intestines along with the harmful bacteria leading to disturbance in the complex functioning of the intestines leading to diarrhea..
It is one of the common side effects of the antibiotic intake..
It is however temporary side effect and will resolve once the antibiotic intake is stopped and as you have stopped taking antibiotics the diarrhea will gradually improve.
I would suggest you to take take Loperamide or Furazolidone to control loose motions..
Take proton pump inhibitor like Pantoprazole or Omeprazole empty stomach in the morning till you are taking antibiotics..
You should also take plenty of fluids and oral rehydration solution..
Take more of probiotics like Yoghurt as it will help in retaining god bacteria..
Take more of cereals, banana, yoghurt and rice in diet..
In case if the symptoms worsen consult your treating physician and get evaluated..
