What Causes Vomiting And High Fever After Taking Z-Pak?
My daughter had been given a Z pack last Friday for a sinus infection. On Saturday evening she all of a sudden didnt feel good and threw up. Sunday she had a fever of 102.9 but it didnt last long. She is still home from school complaining of stomach pain and burning in the middle of her stomach. Has had a headache on and off. Her pediatrician thinks she possibly had a reaction to her z pack that upset her stomach and she also maybe has a stomach virus. He also thinks she may have a touch of broncitis. We have discontinued the z pack. She has missed the whole week of school. Says when she eats or drinks her tummy hurts more.
Z-pack or Azithromycin can cause GI side effects like nausea; vomiting; abdominal pain; dyspepsia. On withdrawal of the offending drug, symptoms should subside on its own.
Symptomatic treatment with anti-emetics and switch over to some other antibiotic (if needed for bronchitis) might be sufficient.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Tushar Kanti Biswas,
