What Causes Vomiting In A Child While On Probiotic?
Hi. My son is 2.5 yrs old. Last week he passed watery light colored stools. So ttok him to pediatrician n he prescribed probiotic. After taking probiotic, my son was alright. No loose stools. Today he has vomited twice. He seem to have puked everything he had for lunch n dinner. Wat should I do now? He is trying to sleep. But not sleeping. Pls help me..wat medicine shall I give him?
Acute onset of vomiting is most commonly related to viral or bacterial infection of the gastrointestinal tract.
In children, medication is not usually given to stop the vomiting (eg dramamin) because it makes the child sleeping which would reduce the use of oral fluids and increase the chance of dehydration.
Probiotics can be used to help. In addition, he needs oral rehydration fluids, pedialyte is most usually used for children but he should be given small amounts fluids regularly , not large amounts.
If he is too much at a time, it would cause vomiting.
Hold off solid food till there is a 4 hour window with no symptoms, focus on giving fluids to make sure that he does not become dehydrated.
I hope this helps
