What Causes Vomiting Up Of Blood Along With Mild Fever?

Hello, I have a sore throat, and a cough, and I am coughing up some really yucky stuff and the last time it had tiny spots of blood. I have a fever of 99.3. I just got over another cold and cough, and got this. Or maybe it is back?? I will call my doctor in the morning, but do you have any other advice? Thank you, Shelley

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi Shelley,

I am sorry for the health problems you are going through.

Coughing up some really yucky stuff and tiny blood spots are suggesting respiratory tract infection (tuberculosis or other). Further consultation with pulmonologist is highly recommended as soon as possible together with running a few diagnostic tests:
- culture of sputum
- X-ray of the chest
- complete blood count
- Mantoux test

For the moment, I advise to:
- keep well hydrated (increase fluids intake especially tea)
- take cough medicines you find over the counter
- use paracetamol or ibuprofen for the fever
- take vit.C supplement to strengthen immunity

Wish fast recovery.
