Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 17 year old daughter has been throwing up blood. We have been admitted to a children s hospital and had EGD, CT scan and numerous blood work. That was in late July. Since then she started again mid August. She is not vomiting food. The amounts vary from about 100ml-200ml at each time. It is bright red blood with small thickened clots. I am a RN for 13 years. Each time it last for about 2 days with a total of 7-8 times of vomiting. She just started again last Friday and it lasted until Sunday with a total of about 9 times. The doctors at the hospital are stumped, no answers. Her blood levels are fine. What should we do?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
In my opinion, you should take her to gastroenterologist.
In her case, upper GI (gastrointestinal) scopy is needed.
Bright red colored blood vomiting is mostly due to esophageal pathology.
It is quite possible to miss on CT if lesion is very small.
So consult gastroenterologist and get done upper GI scopy.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
