What Causes Water Passing From Vagina Post Surgical Abortion?
Hello, I have a question regarding surgical abortion. I had this procedure done three days ago, I was at 13 weeks. Today I suddenly and unexpectedly had a release of water, which was painless but quite unpleasant. Is this something I should be concerned about? I am also in quite a bit of pain still and feeling rather lethargic. How long can I expect the physical recovery to take?

Hi,
After surgical abortion, there is some vaginal discharge (blood stained or clear) for few days (maximum 8 days) that drains out with movements. They are few remnants of pregnancy and some fluid discharge due to inner cover of uterus due to irritation by handling during procedure. All you have to do is to keep clean (and avoid infection), take the medicines prescribed. In case this continues for long or is excessive, you have to consult your doctor for needful medicines.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
