What Causes Watery Discharge From Ears After Swimming?

My son had Tympanoplasty surgery two years ago and has been doing fine. However, tonight, after swimming in a pool, he has a lot of watery discharge coming from the ear he had sugery on. He says that his ear does not hurt, but his pillow is becoming really wet from the discharge that seems excessive to me. Is this even remotely normal?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It might be an otitis or ear infection. Swimming should be avoided in patients with antibiotics ruptured eardrum and after tympanoplasty. Consult an ENT specialist and get evaluated. An otoscopic examination is required to make a diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
