What Causes Watery Eyes In An Infant?

My daughter is 16 months old maybe on 5 occasions have I seen one or two tears come out of one eye when she was crying since she was born. I recently switched her to a new daycare and she has been crying a lot but there is never any tears. The teacher mentioned this to me and made me realize she very very rarely has ever had tears come out of her eyes( from what I recall I have only seen one or two at a time from one eye not the other). Is this something I should worry about?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Generally children do not have much amount of tears when compared to adults. Look whether eyes looks dry all the time or not. Also look for dry tongue and oral cavity. If the eyes are excessive dry it can cause problems and in that case you may have to use artificial tear drops to avoid complications. I suggest you to consult an Ophthalmologist for detailed evaluation.
