What Causes Wavy Lines In The Field Of The Vision?

Hi, This has happened to my husband twice. He is seeing a dark wavy line in his right eye. He is 64 years old, 2 years ago he was diagnosed with oral cancer. Half his tongue was removed and 51 lymph nodes removed in his neck. He has been cancer free for over a year. During the cancer treatment he lost 40 pounds. Before he was a non medicated diabetic, controlled by diet and exercise. He has an appointment to see his family doctor next week. Should he ask him or see an eye doctor. Thanks

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Wavy lines in the field of vision can be from different issues affecting retina most likely but keeping in mind history of oral cancer and lymph node dissection, the possible involvement of retinal vessel or optic nerve via metastasis should be ruled out also.

In a nutshell, he requires immediate consultation with an ophthalmologist for optometry, fundoscopy and further workup of the eye ailments. Do not hesitate for any follow up ahead.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
