What Causes Wavy Pain In The Right Side Of My Head?

Beginning last night, I am having pain on the right side of my head behind my ear that comes in waves. It makes me flinch when it hits. When I lie down, it seems to go away. I went to the Chiropractor today thinking that maybe an adjustment would help, but, it' back. Advil seems to help.

Neurologist 's  Response
Hello!

Thank you for asking on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would explain that your symptoms could be related to occipital neuralgia or tension type headache.

As the headaches is relived by ibuprofen, it is indicative of a benign type of headache.

So, there is nothing to worry about!

Do you have any other symptoms like troubles with hearing or dizziness? What about neck pain? Is the skin tender to touch in this region?

I would recommend taking ibuprofen three times daily.

Some physical exercise will help reduce the muscle spasm.

If the problem persists, I would recommend consulting with a neurologist for a physical check up.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!

Kind regards, Dr. Aida
