What Causes Weakness And Back Ache After Replacing Aorta?

On July 29, my husband had his aorta replaced, he is going into his 8th week starting tomorrow, he is very weak, having to use a walker, complaining of aches in his back, always is tired. They too echo cardiagrams and said everything went well. I just don t/understand why after all this time he isn t getting stronger. His blood pressures are great, his appetite fluctuates at time! Does recovery take this long after surgery, Jim is 78 and lost 20 pounds during this surgery!

Hello,

As taking more rest in bed or sitting for long hours makes the muscles undergo physiological changes leading to muscle weakness. Undergoing cardiac rehabilitation program post the cardiac surgery is advised to regain the endurance of the heart and body. Pain and aches are for temporary and will go away soon one the ambulation is performed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
