What Causes Weakness And Lightheadedness After Taking Meloxicam?

I have just started taking Meloxicam 7.5 mg and it seems that in the a.m. when I am on my morning walk I get sort of weak and light headed. That feeling stays with me if I exert myself much at all. I am a 69 year old woman who walks 3 miles a day and then I go to the gym for weight training which I have done for 40 years and I also tire easily... around 3 I seem to want to take a nap which I have never done before. Is it the meds?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Meloxicam does not usually cause weakness and lightheaded sensation. It is not one of the known side effects though persons can react differently to medication.

You may want to be assessed otherwise to make sure that there are no other causes.

This would require a physical examination and blood tests such as complete blood count, ESR (checks for inflammation) and thyroid function tests (low thyroid hormone can cause fatigue).

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
