What Causes Weakness And Loss Of Appetite?

My mother has been suffering with weakness and has no appetite. In fact, for months she s been unable to consume food without vomiting. She has gone to three doctors...none of which can find anything wrong with the tests she s been given to date. She has lost over 30 pounds, and, of course, now is very depressed. We suggested she go to larger hospital. i.d. Mayo Clinic or Iowa City Hospital. None of her doctors have suggested this yet. Any ideas?

Hi,

Several possible causes of weakness and loss of appetite include underlying medical conditions, medication side effects, and psychological factors. Given your mother's symptoms, she must receive a thorough medical evaluation to determine the underlying cause.

Some possible medical causes of weakness and loss of appetite include:
* Gastrointestinal disorders: Your mother's inability to consume food without vomiting may be related to an underlying gastrointestinal disorder such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), gastritis, or peptic ulcer disease.
* Endocrine disorders: Endocrine disorders, such as thyroid disease or diabetes, can cause weakness and loss of appetite.
* Neurological disorders: Neurological disorders, such as Parkinson's disease or multiple sclerosis, can cause weakness and loss of appetite.
* Chronic infections: Chronic infections such as tuberculosis, hepatitis, or HIV can cause weakness and loss of appetite.
* Cancer: Certain types of cancer, such as pancreatic cancer, can cause weakness and loss of appetite.

In addition to medical causes, there may be psychological factors contributing to your mother's symptoms. Depression, anxiety, and stress can all affect appetite and energy levels. Your mother must receive a thorough evaluation by a medical professional to determine the underlying cause of her symptoms.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
