What Causes Weakness And Numbness In The Knees?

I had surgery to repair torn patellar tendon in left knee. 4 weeks after surgery i am feeling numbness in my opposite knee. Also feels a little weak and I m a little afraid getting up and down steps because of possibly injury to the other knee. Is this a strain from overcompensating for my left knee or should i be more worried about it.
