What Causes Weakness In Heart, breathing Problem And Gurgling In Sternum?

Hi, I m just out of hospital after a week of heart trouble. Had echo and was kept in on results. My heart has deteriorated from previous visit. It s weak apparently not pumping enough and then trying to pump faster to make up missing beats here and there. I m on blood pressure tablets and beta blocker. I was fine before I left hospital but now I feel a gurgling feeling in my sternum and I can feel my heart thump. I feel my breathing is not 100% but still don t feel bad. Should I be concerned? I felt the beta blocker last time I was on it didn t agree with me. I m back on the same one, bisop 1.25mg low dosage.

Hi,

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.

Gurgling feeling in your sternum can come from fluid movement in hollow tube i.e esophagus which runs down into the abdomen right behind the heart. If you are on nitrate (sorbitrate) ,it can relax the lower esophageal sphincter and cause gastro-esophageal reflux and produce gurgling sensations at times behind the sternum.Pumping action of your heart is weak, the previuos beta-blocker might have negative inotropic effect and further weakened the pumping action. Since you are now on low dose of Bisoporol 1.25mg(β1-selective agent/ cardioselective), you may have now lessening of your respiratory symptoms(breathing not 100%).
