What Causes Weakness In The Left Leg While On Coumadin?
My 76 Year old mother had a pulmonary embolism almost 8 years ago and has been on Coumadin ever since, over the weekend she was not able to stand up on her left leg and was admitted to the hospital. The hospital doctors have taken her off the Coumadin as they said she had been on it too long is this correct/normal?
Hi Thanks for posting on HCM Taking Coumadin after a pulmonary embolism is a good preventive measure. The duration of prevention may be judged by your Doctor after evaluating all the possible risks factors of blood clot formation.I can not say your Doctor took a bad decision unless an extensive and comprehensive medical evaluation is done. Weakness of left leg may not be caused by Coumadin.Possible causes may include: -sciatica, -problems with the spinal cord that lead to pinching or compression of the nerves as they exit the spinal cord through the holes between the vertebrae of the backbone. -Ionic/metabolic imbalances -Neurologic conditions like peripheral neuropathy, MS, stroke -And others Only a keen medical evaluation may help identify the cause of this condition. Hope my answer will help you Best regards
