What Causes Weakness In The Legs While Suffering From Diabetes?
I have been noticing that my legs have become weak, I have problems with balance and feel like I could easily fall; I have been diabetic Type II for more than 30 years; most of the time with AC1 ranging from 7.0 -9.0; I also have degenerative disk and I m wondering whether my doctor s suggestion of physical therapy would be helpful to strengthen my legs?
Hi, thanks for your question. Please rate my answer if you are satisfied. The problem of weak legs and balance in your case can come from two things; first, the A1C of 7-9 for 30 years means that you may have developed peripheral neuropathy which can weaken your motor and sensory nerves causing your muscles to go thinner and position sensing organs in your lower joints to lose their function to some extent. Second, the degenerative disk could have caused damage to the nerves of your lower limbs again resulting in your symptoms with the same mechanism. In either case, you have to take physiotherapy sessions along with dietary supplements like calcium, vitamin D, vitamin B6 and B12. Also, it's better that you have your A1C not above 7. God bless you.
