What Causes Weeping Or Draining Pore On Back?

I have a weeping or draining pore on my back which I believe is from a cyst like bump that was there earlier. Every once in awhile that place will fill up to a bump and when pressure is applied a brownish/grey puss like stuff comes out. Right now it is just a draining pore. Anything to do about it??

Hello,

You are suffering from weeping/draining pore on your back. Your symptom is indicative of an inflamed hair follicle that has turned into a cyst. Sebaceous cysts occur on the back and are formed due to accumulation or plugging of skin oil gland near the hair follicles. A ruptured cyst can start draining and be very painful. It may also result in spasms depending on where the cyst is located.

Lipoma or a subcutaneous lump with accumulation of fatty tissue can also cause such symptoms but it is rare. Chlorhexidine shower or bath every day for two weeks will prevent spread of infection. You can apply naseptin ointment on the affected part for relieve. Avoid sharing towels, clothing and toiletries with anyone. Get clinically examined by a GP, you may need to get incision and drainage done.

If needed, the cyst is removed surgically. An antiseptic dressing is done over the cut to absorb more discharge. You should get the dressing changed frequently and kept clean and dry. Oral antibiotics, like a course of Augmentin can be given to combat infections. Flucloxacillin or erythromycin work equally well. This treatment is normally done in serious cases.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
