I had a parathyroidectomy 4 weeks ago and have packed on 5 kg since. My usual dieting doesn t seen to be working. Is this normal? Will it continue? What can I do? I lost 20 kg last year through hard work diet and exercise. Am not keen on a rebound.

HELLO thank you for posting your query in HMC
parathyroidectomy do not cause weight gain. there is possibility in such cases where thyroid is also removed along with parathyroid glands. i would suggest you to get a thyroid profile test done and ultrasound abdomen to find out for Poly cystic ovarian disease if you have irregular periods.if the tests are normal you continue with your diet and exercise to lose weight.it might take little time to lose gained pounds. hope i have answered your question. if you have further questions i will be happy to help.
