What Causes Weight Gain After Thyroid Surgery?

Hello, I quit smoking Oct of 2013 and also had thyroid surgery in Jan for a lump ... They took the lump out but left the rest of my thyroid.I have gained about 30 pounds since jan. I have been trying very hard to lose weight I walked 24 miles just last week at about 3 mph.. I have walked since june and have not lost a pound. I am on levothyroxine 25 mcg and I am going to a thyroid Dr on Friday? What shoud I have him check it is my first visit with him. And what do you think the problem is?

Welcome to healthcaremagic.com. Sorry about the futile attempts to lose weight. It is quite possible however that you have become hypothyroid. I would have them check your thyroid levels which would include your TSH and T4 levels. These numbers can be checked every 6 weeks for medication efficacy and not sooner.
