What Causes Weight Gain Along With Hot Flashes And Low Energy Level?
I am a 54 year old female. I am bipolar and have hypothyroidism. I recently went to a endocrenologist and had a complete workup . She said I am on the right amount of levothroxine and could find nothing wrong. I had my last period at age 51. I am having more hot flashes than ever and have gained 20 pounds in 1 year. I have no energy and sleep 12 hours a night. What would you suggest my doctors should check for?
Hypothyroidism is likely the cause of weight gain for which you need to do regular exercise. Hot flashes are mainly the postmenopausal symptom along with changes in energy level is seen very commonly. I would suggest you get a complete blood work up done before that consult your doctor as depending on your current health he might ask for few additional tests to be done. Depending on the results you will be guided with appropriate treatment.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Manisha Auradkar, General & Family Physician
