What Causes Weight Gain And Abdominal Distention While On Adderall?

I started taking Adderall for Adult ADD. I have gained a considerable amount of weight on this medicine. specifically in the abdominal area. I am constantly sweating, and have been moody and more emotional. I have been under a great deal of stress at work as an RN in the OR as well as taking care of my parents who live with me. I am worried because my abdomen feels distended, i am thirsty all the time, and generally do not feel healthy. I am 51, and have gained 23 pounds since last july /in one year.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Let me tell you that as adderall is amphetamine, a stimulant, it does not cause weight gain and on the contrary, it may cause weight loss.
Sweating, mood changes can happen but weight gain is a definitely no.
It will be better if you mention the name of other medicines that you have been taking apart from Adderall.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Prabhash Verma, General & Family Physician
