What Causes Weight Gain And Hair Loss After Taking Celexa And Wellbutrin?

i was on wellbutrin and celexa and gained about 20 pounds, tired all the time, and hair loss...never had these problems before meds....i just quit taking the medicine i know thats not what I should do but I feel more miserable on them....weight was one thing that made me depressed, i had to work so hard to keep it off and felt like the meds just worked against me. My hair for the past year started falling out and thinning I have always had thick hair but now I have gaps in my hair. As far as not being depressed all the meds have done is make me obsess over weight gain and hair loss

Hello,

Weight gain and hair loss may be associated as a side effect of the medicines you had been taking. Now, since you have stopped taking the medicines, keep your treating doctor informed. Hair loss due to side effect of medications is not permanent and can improve. Take home made food rich in calcium, iron and protein. Take berries, fruits and vitamins in plenty. Take whole cereals and beans / nuts, dry fruits.

Take care of your scalp and hair hygiene. Keep it oiled with almond or coconut oil. Take Logihair caps, once daily for 20 days to help regrowth of hair and to prevent further hair loss. You are suggested to avoid taking trans fat, full fatty dairy products, cheese, oily and fatty food. Exercise regularly. Do regular walking in the morning and evening. Maintain healthy weight. Stay active. Avoid addictions if any.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
