What Causes Weight Gain While On Thyroid Medication?

Hi Dr. I am on thyroid medicatio-75mcg daily since June 2017. for the past 2 weeks I am gaining weight but I have changed nothing in my lifestyle. I have been the same wieght for about 35 years, Can this be from my thyroid medicine? My thyroid was functioning fine but had to have it removed due to a large goiter.

Hello,

Gaining weight while on medication means that the medicines you are taking are not sufficient enough to meet the body requirements. We have to escalate the dose. First of all, check the thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels. If they are high means dose has to be increased.
