What Causes Weight Gain With Muscle Cramps And Numbness In Limbs?

I am a 29 year old female. Within the last 3 to 4 months I have gained twenty to thirty pounds, I have been having muscle cramps all over my body, I have also been experiencing numbness in my limbs and extremities, I am very fatigued and I feel exhausted all the time, my eyes feel very dry and my skin is very dry. I have not changed my diet or exercise except for eating more vegetables and fruits. I am at a loss, and I have been through literally almost every over the counter diet pills. I want to get back to a normal weight and myself.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Apart from diet control you need:
- Health check up to find cause of the muscular/ nerve problems
- Blood CBC, serum B 12, X-ray or MRI of spine to find any vertebral or disc problem.
- Blood check up to find cause of obesity- glucose tolerance test, thyroid function test, USG pelvis to find PCOD
Once the causes are pointed out respective experts would guide you with their suitable advice. Please consult gynecologist or endocrinologist as per the advice of your family physician.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
