What Causes Weird Feeling Like Fluid In Clogged Ear?

Bear with me on this question. I ve had a left ear which appears to be clogged up for the past four weeks. It feels like it needs to pop. My balance is off and I don t have 100% hearing in the ear. Also, when I tap my teeth together I have a sensation of a noise which is hard to describe. Also, when I tap my head I can hear the same noise like there might be fluid inside but it all may be related to my ear situation. I have no headaches or pain. No dizziness other than balance being off. I don t believe it s wax buildup either because I tried some over the counter product in case it was wax. I ve taken Claritan but not much has changed. Again, no other issues to speak of that would help. I really sense it s an inner ear problem and hopefully nothing more. I m a 62 year old male who works out regularly. I do take 20mg of a statin which I started about the same time this occurred (4 weeks ago). Thanks in advance

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query weird feeling like fluid in clogged ear could be due to blockage of sinuses, sinusitis, ear wax and ear infection as well. As you heard pop while jaw movements so probable chances are TMJ problem. It could be due to TMJ dislocation, Misalignment of teeth, Stress and anxiety, Arthritis, Problem related to disc present in TMJ .I would suggest you to consult oral surgeon first for proper evaluation of TMJ. Oral surgeon may refer you to orthodontist for proper alignment of teeth. Doctor may order CT scan and MRI for proper examination. Doctor may prescribe muscle relaxant and prescribe medicine to reduce stress , give night guard and anxiety. If the problem is not related to TMJ the consult ENT specialist again to check for problem like sinusitis.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
