Hello, I have an unusual symptom. I am smelling something but it is internal, when I breathe and I can smell it in my nasal passages. It is not in the environment. I wake up smelling this. It is a pleasant smell but I can t relate it to anything in particular. I thought I might have a beer allergy because I was drinking 1 bottle of various types of craft beers a day, no more, and this came on about 2 weeks afterwards. I recently was diagnosed with bronchitis and took antibiotics and had to have an inhaler because my breathing was so difficult. This is better now but not gone and the smell in my nasal passages continues. I have no idea what is going on. Thank you. Barbara (age 66)
Hi. Thanks for your query. This is called foetor. The causes can be sinusitis, bronchitis as you had, infection focus somewhere in the respiratory system. I would advise you the following: - Go for an ENT examination. CT scan of the sinuses Gram staining and culture and sensitivity of the nasal discharge Antibiotic coverage and further treatment as per the findings.
