Hi David,

I understand how this problem is having a major impact on your personal and social life.

To begin with, i would want to let you know that alcohol is a strong diuretic (increases the flow/output of urine). Hence, drinking alcohol is known to cause increased frequency and volume of micturition (peeing) in everyone.
Now, in your case this problem seems to be more pronounced than expected by intake of only a couple of pints.

I would like to suggest you to make some behavioral modifications, especially during such evenings (when you drink).

1. Restrict the intake of water or any fluids in the whole day (24 hours) such that, you drink only a small quantity of water each time you are thirsty (as opposed to a full glass of water).

2. Do not consume fluids preferably after a fixed time in late evenings (say, 7 pm).

3. When consuming alcohol, make sure you use the loo before you fall asleep. Do not consume more water/fluids afterwards.

4. On all the days that you have consumed alcohol, you can make a habit of setting an alarm at a fixed time of the night that you may choose, and go to the loo in the middle of the sleep. This may mean disturbing the sleep for a few minutes every night that you drink, but it is a simple and most commonly used remedy for avoiding bed-wetting.

5. I would not ask you to compromise on social drinking, but you may curtail the quantity of drinks to a minimum, and consume it very slowly to avoid peak effects (deep sleep).

6. Lastly, you may follow a simple exercise of trying to hold yourself from peeing for a few minutes, every time that you want to use the loo in the daytime. This helps to increase the capacity of bladder and thus, postpone the urgent passage of urine (to avoid wetting of bed during sleep).

Hope this addressed you concern. Do feel free to ask for help if any more queries.
