What Causes White Patch Over The Tonsil?

i woke up on wednesday morning and my left tonsil was swolen, i started to feel sick and have a bad headach at 5 oclock that night, the doctor came out at 6 the next morning and said i had tonsillitis and i had a really bad fever, i couldn't stand up because my head hurt and i felt really dizzy, i stayed in my bed the whole day because i felt so ill. i was sick last night, and i feel a bit better today, i've been able to eat again without feeling ill or feeling like i'm going to be sick, when i swallow my food or drink it hurts still, but it's getting better. the swelling on the left handside of my mouth and my tonsil has got down a bit, but on the right hand side i noticed there is this white patch over my tonsil, i don't know what it is.. but it's quite big and covering my tonsil? could you help me please? i am also taking clarithromycin for the tonsilitis and changed from co-codamol last night to ibuprofen

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you have a bacterial throat infection and the white patch over the tonsil seems to be pus pocket secondary to infection..
It seems to be bacterial [strep] throat infection and as you are taking Clarithromycin which is an antibiotic that is used to treat bacterial infection and it will help in reducing throat infection..
Continue taking the same and along with it take anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen, do warm saline gargles, chew a vitamin C pellet daily.
Sip on warm water throughout the day..
Avoid hot, spicy and hard foods..
In case if the pus pocket does not resolve draining of pus can be done..
