What Causes White Patches And Soreness On Roof Of Mouth?

I am a 39 year old female never smoked, healthy lifestyle. I have a sore that has been on the roof of my mouth for about 3 weeks. The top of my mouth has white patches and side of my mouth. My throat hurts not just like a regular sore throat but all the way down to the bottom of my neck. My glands are swollen. I have been sick but have already finished the antibiotics and still feel bad. I have been running a low grade fever, achy and tired. I don't have any congestion. Worried that this could be something more serious.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain white patches on the roof and the sides of the mouth can be due to fungal infection known as oral thrush while sore can be an apthous ulcer..
You should consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a through clinical evaluation will be diagnostic.
He can also advise you a microscopic examination of the patch to confirm the diagnosis.
As you also have a recent medical history of taking antibiotics it can also lead to thrush because antibiotics can cause damage to the good bacteria along with harmful bacteria and can reduce the resisting tendency of oral cavity against supernumerary infections..
In case if thrush is diagnosed you will be advised to take antifungal medications like Nystatin mouthwash and Clotrimazole lozenges..

Other part of your question is that fever aches and tired can be due to viral infection and you can take Tylenol to reduce fever but if the symptoms linger for more than ten days get a blood test done to rule out ofr other infections under supervision of a General Physician.

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
