What Causes White/purple Lump In Throat With Enlarged Gland?
Hi there. I had a fever a couple of days ago, along with a bit of vertigo. For the past two days I ve had a very enlarged gland on one side of my neck. The inside of my throat on the same side is very red, and it looks like I now have some sort of whitish/purplish lump there (just this morning). I thought it was just a bad cold, but could it be tonsillitis? Thanks for any feedback
Understanding your concern. As per your query white/purple lump in throat with enlarged gland is due to bacterial/viral infection. It seems to be a bacterial infection. In sore throat tonsils in neck get swollen and cause tonsillitis I would suggest you to do warm saline gargles 3-4 times a day. Maintain proper oral hygiene. Consult ENT specialist for proper evaluation of condition and start treatment as per that. Doctor may order throat swab test or blood test to confirm the diagnosis. Doctor may prescribe steroid medicine, anti viral (acyclovir) or antibiotics depending upon diagnosis. Avoid hot, sharp and spicy food. Avoid heavy meal. Take acetaminophen for pain and inflammation.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
