today i discovered white skin peeling off my tongue. Is this normal and what may have caused this? I remember the only different thing i have done in the past few days to suddenly appear was chewing on a jolly rancher during my sleep and forgot about it until midnight (without choking) and had a burnt feeling where the candy laid in my tongue.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern.
As per your complain and presentation of symptoms due to keeping of the jolly rancher candies in mouth while sleep and the citrus nature of the candies has led to chemical irritation or chemical burning of tongue due to acidic nature of candies leading to peeling of the superficial layer or the mucosa of the tongue..
Nothing to worry as gradually the peeling will stop but you should take care and not repeat this habit of keeping candy in mouth while sleeping. Do soda bicarb rinses. Avoid sour and acidic foods. Drink plenty of water and take a soft diet.. If the tongue has burning sensation then you can take Ibuprofen and suuck ice cubes.
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards.. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
