What Causes White Spots On The Scalp Post Taking A Cortisone Shot?
I received cortisone shots in my scalp for the purpose of hair growth but the shot left me with hyperpigmentation. Each area that the shot was applied has a white spot in the area making it visible where I received each shot. No hair has grown in those areas at all. I received the shot January 31, 2017. Today is May 16, 2017 and I have yet to see any improvement. Is there anything I can do to reverse what looks like blotch white spots on my scalp. its very noticeable because the spots are so much lighter than my regular complexion
Hi. As per your case history you are having post inflammatory hypo pigmentation due to cortisone. My treatment advice is - 1. Avoid further cortisone shots to prevent such episodes. 2. Apply a tacrolimus 0.03 %ointment twice daily on white spots. 3. These spots usually reverse in 4-6 months. 4. Other treatment options are oral psoralen, topical psoralen, vitamin supplements taken only after consulting a dermatologist.
Thanks. Dr. Harshit bhachech. MBBS, DDVL.
