What Causes White Vaginal Discharge?

Hi, I'm 19 and I've realized lately that I've been getting a white, thick and sticky discharge on my underware and it has developed a smell. It doesn't itch or burn but at times I would have to take my finger and then I'll see that there are these sticky white things there. Its really uncomfortable not knowing if it may or may not be there and I don't know what is causing it especially that I'm a virgin. Plz help me. Is there anyother way besides going to a doctor ?

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Your symptoms could be due to vaginal infection like yeast infection. I would suggest to consult the gynecologist and undergo vaginal swab test, KOH mount to confirm the cause. Doctor will give following advises:

1. Single dose of fluconazole.

2. Vaginal suppository of clotrimazole and lactobacillus.

3. Wash vagina with warm salted water and then apply apple cidar vinegar.

4. Wear pure cotton loose inner and change it after work out.

5. Keep the area clean and dry.

6. Drink plenty of water and eat healthy diet.
